Missed the testing Deadline? What to do.
Hello Home Schoolers!
Did the testing deadline here in Oregon sneak up on you? Unable to find an examiner to test your student before August 15?
You’re not alone, and we can help!
Oregon’s administrative rule regulating testing states:
(5) Children in grades 3, 5, 8, and 10, being taught as provided in section (4) of this rule, shall be examined no later than August 15…
So, you’re going to be late… Here’s what you can expect and here’s what you can do.
- If your ESD is going to request test results, expect communication from them in the near future. As I wrote in a previous email, you’re not required to turn in test results unless your ESD asks for them.
- If you get a request for results and your student has yet to test, the ESD representative will simply ask you when your student is scheduled to test and to turn in the results once you receive the report. That’s it!
In other words, ESD’s anticipate that some students in their counties will be late in getting their testing done. They recognize that procrastination, vacations, sickness, and forgetting all contribute to why there will always be a few families who test after the deadline. Actually, more than a few.
Last year we tested over 100 students in the three weeks following the August 15th deadline. No one got reprimanded or “in trouble” by the ESD. They were simply asked to “get it done.”
If you’re needing or wanting to schedule testing, we have three remote group test dates you can join. They are:
August 30th
September 6th
September 13th
If you want to learn how remote testing works and possibly sign up, here’s the link to our testing page: https://www.basicskills.net/testing/.
No need not to enjoy the last month of summer because of a missed deadline. But do get signed up now! Even though the testing is virtual, seating is limited.
