Start your Day this Way…
Do some easy things first!
When I was home schooling, I found that doing some short, easy things first at the beginning of the day provided a warm-up of sorts. If the subject was math, we had a “question or story problem of the day.” We often followed this with “mental math” drills. If we began with English, we did a page out of Daily Grams. If Bible, we read a short passage of Scripture and discussed it.
Beginning with a warm-up time allows you and your children to get “climatized” in anticipation of subject matter that will require a longer period of concentration. It gives you both a little “practice” before tackling something hard, something that requires sustained critical or creative thinking skills. Warming up works in sports. It also works in education.
Getting easy things (usually little things) done and checking them off a list (if you’re list making person) provides a sense of accomplishment. It provides a sense of momentum. But, there’s a down side to doing easy things first. I’ll explain that next time.
For now, consider doing some easy things first.
That’s Wednesday’s home schooling tip!
