Perhaps the Most Compelling Reason to Test Annually
In my last post I presented 3 reasons why testing annually provides a direct and personal benefit to families who chose to do so. Annual achievement testing also provides a comprehensive benefit to the home school community as a whole. It’s a tool that enables us to protect ourselves and our children from government intrusion into our lives.
Testing is one means to make the case that we are doing well enough to be left alone. It provides factual, comparative data that stands up strong when looked at from a national perspective. Without such data, our freedom to make educational choices that are best for our children are less secure.
Annual achievement testing enabled research studies like the Home Schooling in Oregon 2026 Research Booklet to be written and presented. This study, presented to legislators by home school families on Capital Day covered the following topics:
- Academic achievement outcomes
- Social and emotional development
- Adult success and civic engagement
- Demographic realities of homeschool families
- Frequently cited concerns and research-based responses
- Full research citations for further study
This study may be downloaded at no charge here.
